Oak Flat Information meeting in Washington, DC
The National Trust for Historic Preservation will be hosting an informational meeting in Washington, DC on June 15th, at 2:30 pm, for members of the public to learn why HR 1904, the current version of the Oak Flat land exchange, is a bad business deal for America.  Representatives from the San Carlos Apache Tribe, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Tribe and the Arizona Mining Reform Coalition will be on hand to give a presentation and answer questions.

In the most recent issue of Rock and Ice (#193), there's an article by Peter Metcalf, the head of climbing gear manufacturer Black Diamond, about his efforts to fight the ongoing destruction of Utah's wild lands by resource mining (oil and mineral) companies. A quote in this article seem to resonate with the Concerned Climbers of Arizona efforts regarding the unique and precious natural area of Oak Flat. Indeed, at least something to think about.
